What is the Southern Miss Gold Rush?

The Southern Miss Gold Rush is a 36-hour, online fundraising event that encourages University alumni, students, employees and friends to come together and support their favorite area of the University.

When is the Southern Miss Gold Rush?

The event will be held during a 36-hour period, from noon CST on Tuesday, March 25, to midnight on Wednesday, March 26. 

Why should I give during the Southern Miss Gold Rush?

The Southern Miss Gold Rush is an opportunity to show the magnitude a large number of gifts can make on the University. This 36-hour campaign will bring high energy and excitement to supporting Southern Miss and make your gift more immediate, direct and personal. By flooding social media channels with posts about the Southern Miss Gold Rush, your gift will raise awareness and encourage others to join you in support of Southern Miss.

How do I make my gift?

Gifts of any size are welcomed and greatly appreciated. You can make your gift online at www.southernmissgoldrush.com, via telephone at 601.266.5210 during regular office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, or by visiting the USM Foundation office, located on the third floor of the Trent Lott Center at the Southern Miss Hattiesburg campus, during regular office hours.

Can I designate where my gift goes?

You can choose the area that means the most to you from the many giving opportunities through the USM Foundation. Whether you support the University’s greatest needs with a gift to the Southern Miss Fund or invest in scholarships, programs or campus construction, 100 percent of every gift to the campaign will support its intended purpose.

Can I contribute to the Southern Miss Alumni Association?

Yes. Simply designate your gift to The Legacy Scholarship Endowment (1195). However, you will not receive credit towards your Alumni Association membership.

Can I contribute to athletics?

Yes. Simply designate your gift to the Southern Miss Athletic Fund (1567). However, you will not receive credit towards athletic tickets or your Eagle Club membership. The Southern Miss Athletic Fund supports the emergent needs of the Southern Miss Athletic Foundation.

Will gifts from faculty and staff count toward the Gold Rush?

Yes! Gifts made to The Campaign for Southern Miss on March 25-26 will count toward the Southern Miss Gold Rush. If you set up a new payroll deduct on March 25-26, your first payment will count toward the Gold Rush.

Will my contribution be tax deductible?

Yes. The USM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and gifts are tax-deductible to the extent of current IRS regulations. 

What are my gift options?

You can make a one-time gift, multi-payment gift or recurring gift. Contributions of $1,000 or more can be pledged over a maximum period of five years with a minimum initial pledge payment of 20 percent of the gift being made at the initiation of the pledge.

What can I do to help get the word out about the Gold Rush?

Information about the Southern Miss Gold Rush will be shared through the University’s numerous social media outlets leading up to the event. Real-time results will be shared during the event on www.southernmissgoldrush.com and University social media pages.
